The Hawai‘i State Department of Education is advancing a five-phase master plan to expand and modernise Pahoa Elementary School in Pahoa on Hawai‘i Island. The long-term programme includes demolition of portable classrooms, construction of new classroom buildings, a preschool facility, administration and library building, cafeteria, covered playcourt, upgraded utilities, fire lanes, parking areas, and extensive covered walkways. The phased approach is designed to keep the school operational during construction and may take up to 20 years to complete, depending on funding availability.
