Site work and renovation of a bridge / tunnel in Chesapeake City, Maryland. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a bridge / tunnel; and for site work for a bridge / tunnel.
This contract provides for repainting and miscellaneous steel and concrete repairs on the Chesapeake City Bridge. Work includes surface preparation and painting of structural steel, removal of soluble salts and existing coatings, and application of new coating systems as shown in the drawings. The scope also includes miscellaneous steel repairs in confined and difficult-to-access areas, including removal, fabrication, and replacement of deteriorated steel members using specialty equipment and welding techniques. Concrete repairs are required on the southern approach lanes and include placement of polyester polymer concrete slabs across lanes to meet strict rideability requirements within limited closure windows. Additional work includes removal and replacement of neoprene deck joint seals, removal and replacement of finger joint troughs, repair of web holes, cleaning and maintenance of roadway scuppers, and all associated traffic control. Traffic control is a major component of the work and requires development and implementation of a temporary traffic control plan approved by both the Maryland Department of Transportation and the Delaware Department of Transportation. The plan must accommodate full and partial bridge closures, multi-route detours, and extensive signage, and must be stamped by a professional engineer. Implementation requires certified traffic control personnel and coordination with local and state agencies. Painting and access operations require high-access and under-bridge platforms and extensive fall protection measures. All activities affecting the airgap beneath the bridge must be limited to one half of the main span at a time, with continuous coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard and state pilot agencies to maintain navigation clearances. The estimated period of performance is 720 calendar days. Location: Chesapeake City Bridge, MD Route 213, Chesapeake City, MD 21915. The estimated magnitude of this project is between $5,000,000 and $10,000,000. The Method of Contractor Selection has not been determined at this Time. *The value for this project is based on a financial range. The value is listed as the highest possible cost from the range provided by a stakeholder or official project document.
