The replacement project scope includes a variety of building systems, primarily mechanical systems and lighting, with limited reconfigurations of existing space. There is a large site renewal component to the project as well. This scope of work will be implemented throughout the Rondo Education Center. The Rondo Education Center houses two school programs. The original building, a corporate office and warehouse structure, was completed in 1978, with a major remodeling and transformation to support education programs in 1991. The overall building area, for both schools, is 339,177 square feet and the site is approximately 13.6 acres. Located within the Rondo Education Center and beginning in the 2026-27 School Year, the Afrocentric Program at Benjamin E. Mays will offer a unique, enriching and rigorous educational experience, "through the lens of Black history," designed to empower all scholars to achieve their full potential. The Benjamin E. Mays School is a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 5 school with approximately 340 students. The Capitol Hill Gifted & Talented Magnet is a Grade 1 through Grade 8 school with approximately 1,070 students. This school is the District magnet for gifted and talented students.
