Valley Water is seeking bids from qualified contractors to provide rodent control services at Valley Water facilities throughout Santa Clara County. Services will include regularly scheduled site-specific rodent inspections at earthen levees, earthen dams, canals, pump stations, water treatment plants, percolation ponds, and other designated facilities. Ground squirrels are the primary target species, although related pest control activities may include gopher abatement, burrow destruction or filling, invertebrate control, bird control, and barn owl nest box monitoring and maintenance when requested. The selected contractor will be required to use Integrated Pest Management principles and employ the least toxic and most humane effective methods feasible, with live trapping serving as the preferred control method unless otherwise authorized by Valley Water. Work must be performed by qualified personnel under the direction of a properly licensed pest control operator, and all services must comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulatory requirements. Contractor responsibilities will include providing labor, tools, vehicles, travel, fuel, materials, equipment, daily field records, monthly reports, and detailed monthly invoices. The agreement will also require year-round availability for on-call services, compliance with sensitive species restrictions and Valley Water training requirements, and coordination with Valley Water staff regarding site access, safety, fire prevention, property protection, and service effectiveness.
