This project is to reduce wildfire vulnerability and enhance the resilience and reliability of the District's electric grid by converting overhead power lines to underground service in a location densely forested and prone to outages caused by trees. The service area is covered by mixed forest with deciduous and evergreen trees making it particularly vulnerable to wildfire and treerelated disruptions . Overhead powerlines in the region pass through heavily treed and narrow corridors in some areas. The area faces many customer outages per year caused by trees and warmer drier climate trends have significantly increased the risk of forest fires caused by overhead lines. The enhancement promotes grid hardening in the system and will improve system performance during extreme weather events and reduce the frequency and duration of power outages. The project will convert approximately 6,000 feet of 3-phase overhead lines to trenched or bored parallel runs of underground distribution with 4/0 Aluminum 15KV cable. The project scope of work will be performed from Diamond Point Boulevard to Airport Way along Diamond Point Road, Sequim, WA.
