Site work and new construction of a municipal facility in Cordova, Alaska. Completed plans call for site work for a municipal facility; and for the construction of a municipal facility.
Engineering services for the design of a 2,600 linear foot electrified chain link bear fence with vehicle gates and a solar/battery power system for the 17 Mile Landfill. The City of Cordova is requesting written proposals from qualified engineering firms (The Firm) interested in providing engineering services for the design of the 17 Mile Landfill Electrified Bear Fence. The fence should consist of approximately 2,600 linear feet of chain link fencing with two (2) vehicle entrance gates. The fence must be able to withstand and repel attempts to access the Municipal Solid Waste Cell by mature and juvenile brown bears . The City's initial thoughts is that such a fence should be at least 8 feet tall and have a minimum of 3 feet of chain link buried in the ground to prevent bears from digging under the fence. City will work with The Firm to determine final design based on engineers expertise with similar projects and appropriate design based on locations physical and geological conditions . The fence must also be electrified. There is no city supplied power at the landfill so electricity must be supplied by a solar/battery system or other systems that may be proposed If desired a site visit can be arranged. Questions regarding this proposal and site visits can be coordinated with Aaron Muma refuse@cityofcordova.net 907-424-5600, or Kevin Johnson at pubworks@cityofcordova.net. 907-424-6220. The Firm will provide the necessary design (details, plans, material specifications, etc) to accomplish the construction of a bear resistant fence that will enclose the existing Municipal Solid Waste Cell (see attached conceptual fence layout). Access to the cell must be accomplished in a way that allows for staff to safely open and close the gate(s) for standard size garbage trucks (minimum width of 20') to enter the cell without bears following in behind. Design should be done in such a way that allows for expansion of the fenced area as needed for future cells to be included within the fenced area.
