The project consists of the repair and rehabilitation of five tunnels along the Blue Ridge Parkway, including tunnels 135P, 148, 153P, 155P, and 157P, using a design-bid-build approach. Work includes construction of Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) walls at two locations, pavement patching, milling and resurfacing, and installation of pavement markings. Structural and tunnel-specific repairs involve concrete crack repair with epoxy or polyurethane injection, removal and rehabilitation of damaged or spalled concrete, cleaning and epoxy coating of exposed reinforcing steel, installation of drainage features such as full and partial drain chases, and cleaning and repair of drainage systems. Additional work includes stone masonry joint repointing at tunnel portals and transitions, vegetation removal, slope grading, ditch regrading, and cleaning of inlets and pipes. The project also includes replacing reflectors and signage, repairing tunnel linings, removing debris and vegetation, and completing all associated miscellaneous construction activities necessary to restore functionality and structural integrity of the tunnels.
