The campus has a central cooling plant that cools the entire campus. It consists of a 250 ton centrifugal chiller and a 150 ton centrifugal chiller. Both have a useful life of 23 years and are past the useful life. The 150 ton is utilized for the lower temperature days and the 250 in conjunction with the 150 ton for the extremely hot days. The 250 ton has experienced leaks causing repairs at $10,000 each. They are located in the basement which is below grade and will require building modifications to get the equipment out. I do feel this is a higher priority but it does not meet the criteria given for higher priority. This aligns with the Strategic Plan goal of Infrastructure & Environmental Sustainability because proper maintenance, repairs, and upgrades of the cooling system will ensure government operations continue to function while improving air qualit y. The project is included in the city 2027 - 2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
