The intake pipe is located inside the pumping station, which is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Memphremagog. This infrastructure ensures the supply of drinking water to the residents of Sherbrooke by delivering approximately 60,000 m3 of water to the drinking water treatment plant each day. It is therefore a critical facility for the City. The water supply pipeline will be reinforced by installing a concrete casing around it to increase its resistance to internal pressures and external stresses. The work includes, among other things, formwork, rebar installation, and concrete pouring, all of which will be carried out in confined spaces. The confined spaces where the work will take place are adjacent to the wet well of the pumping station. The work environment is therefore near water. The contractor selected to carry out the work must therefore have experience with this type of work and environment.
