The project will benefit the area by preventing further meander bend bank erosion, which would eventually threaten nearby levees. The project area is generally situated south of Interstate Highway 69 and west of University Boulevard and Ditch "H", within the city limits of Sugar Land, Texas and Fort Bend County, Texas. The project limits are located within the City of Sugar Land's Memorial Park, as indicated in the plans. The improvements include: Constructing Longitudinal Fill Stone Toe Protection (LFSTP), placing stone riprap along the existing toe of the bank for approximately 4000 linear feet. Constructing stone tiebacks of varying depth, to provide mid- and upper-bank protection for the LFSTP. This also promotes sediment deposition and vegetation growth. The scope of the project aims to provide bank stabilization and reduce river bend meander erosion within the designated benefit area. The specific project elements include, but are not limited to, the following: 1 . Excavation and Fill: b. a. The project will include the provision of approximately 33,320 tons of 18- inch stone rip-rap fill, in the form of Longitudinal Fill Stone Toe Protection (LFSTP) and stone rip-rap tiebacks along the toe and slope of the river bank. The contractor will clear a construction access road as shown in the plans, preserving existing trees to the maximum extent possible. Stone will be brought to the site via this access road and left at three separate stockpile locations near the top of bank, as shown in the plans. C. d. The contractor will construct earthen ramps leading from the top of bank to the edge of the river, in order to transport stone rip-rap for construction of the LFSTP. A stone rip-rap toe will be placed with the top of the toe at an elevation of 33.0', with a typical width of 15 feet. Stone will be placed at a density of fourteen tons per linear foot. It may be necessary to adjust the width of the stone toe in some locations to achieve the required density The contractor will excavate for construction of stone tiebacks at a typical spacing of 200 feet across the length of the project, as shown in the plans. The furthest upstream and furthest downstream tiebacks shall be 10' wide by 10' deep, and filled with stone rip-rap. The interior tiebacks at 200' on center shall be 10' wide by 6' deep, filled with stone rip-rap. All earthwork involved with construction of earthen/access ramps, excavation, backfill , and/or offsite disposal as needed, will be incidental to the stone rip-rap bid item and payments.
