Reference Number 0000434363 The project is part of a Federal grant with a goal of increasing the nation's ability to produce critical minerals and reduce reliance on imports. This property will house private companies in partnership with Mines to mature novel processes related to the production of critical minerals from a variety of sources which may include raw ores, slurry products from industrial processes, recycling or other supply chains. The facility will include shared equipment and analytic laboratories. The building will provide opportunities for startups and scale-ups to co-locate, benefiting from shared-use facilities and the critical mass of talent and research at the site. The existing building has aged mechanical and HVAC systems. It is anticipated that the project will replace boilers, chillers, cooling tower, process chiller and air compressor. Associated temperature controls will be upgraded. A building addition of approximately 4000 square feet will be accomplished as an in-fill between two of the building's wings. This new space will be designed to provide open, flexible high-bay space for large equipment and a gantry crane to facilitate operations. Trench drains and collection of potentially hazardous effluent are anticipated.
