Reference Number 0000434355 CU Boulder is expanding its electric bus charging infrastructure to support the transition of the Buff Bus fleet from diesel to battery electric buses (BEBs). Eight Level 3 charging ports are currently in operation south of Marine Street, including four ChargePoint ports and four ABB ports. CU Boulder anticipates operating a fleet of 13 BEBs by the end of Q4 2027. Additional charging capacity and bus staging/parking are needed to support the planned fleet and future growth. For planning purposes, CU Boulder anticipates a minimum of six additional Level 3 ABB charging ports. The final number, configuration, and location of chargers will be evaluated based on how the existing and proposed charging infrastructure can best support the planned fleet, circulation, charging operations, and electrical infrastructure requirements. The proposed project location is adjacent to the existing bus yard (see map). The site is intended to accommodate expanded charging infrastructure and bus staging/parking while maintaining efficient bus operations. The project should also be planned for future expansion. The University of Colorado Boulder anticipates using a Design / Bid /Build (DBB) approach to project delivery.
