Site work and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Trinidad, Colorado. Completed plans call for the construction of a bridge / tunnel.
Installation of box culvert, reinforced concrete retaining and headwalls, permanent reinforced concrete access ramp, and chain link security fencing, including site preparation, excavation, backfill, and site restoration. Bonds: 100% Bid Bond. Answers we currently have for questions through September 7, 2026. Question Deadline 09/14/2026 at 10:00 AM MT Online portal. Project Requirements: Concrete Mix - Concrete is to be in accordance with ACI-350 requirements. This is the standard for hydraulic structures with long term water contact. Mix designs and testing shall be submitted for approval. It will be confirmed that the reduced permeability attained by the mix, placement, and curing is the primary concern of the funder. The box culvert sections, headwalls, retaining walls etc. are each separate units that do not need to be airtight, will not be exposed to gases and hazardous chemicals, or used for storage. Therefore, it is not believed that any of the other structural design procedures of ACI-318 need to be modified. Again, this will be confirmed. Retaining Wall Reinforcement - The included CDOT Drawing M-601-20 has been marked to show increased "C Bar" reinforcement. Other than that, the reinforcement shall be per CDOT drawings and specifications. Box Culvert Reinforcement - The fabricator is responsible to design and install additional steel reinforcement as may be required for installation of the manhole access hatches. Other than that, the reinforcement shall be per CDOT drawings and specifications. The CDOT drawings do not call for the reinforcing steel to be epoxy coated. Welded Wire Mesh - ASTM A185 and been superseded by ASTM A1064. Therefore, in accordance with the project being constructed to the most current codes ASTM A1064 is the prevailing and is also the preferred product. Access Hatches - The 24"x24" aluminum ladder roof access hatches shall have a stationary interior handle and the exterior handle shall be removable with a lockable cover. The roof access should be comparable to Acudor RHA2424. The soil cover and landscaping over the top of the culvert is not known at this time. Therefore, assume mounting to the top of the culvert without any grade risers. - Box Culvert Joints - The culvert joints shall be sealed per CDOT Drawing M603-3. - Box Culvert Sizing - The box culverts shall have interior measurements of 10-feet wide and 7- feet tall as shown on the drawings. Box Culvert Construction - After designer discussions with the owners it has been decided that box culverts shall be precast only. This decision is based in part on quality control, costs of quality control inspections, and winter weather installation considerations. Materials and Compaction Testing - Testing will be paid by Purgatoire Watershed Partnership through Kidd Engineering but the scheduling will be by the contractor. Site Access and Staging -A survey showing the actual ownership of the Baca and Picketwire Ditch companies shall be provided. Any landscape or other improvements outside of the actual ownership area will have to be restored by the contractor. Purgatoire Watershed Partnership is willing to assist the contractor's attempt to secure easements necessary for construction. We want to be a good neighbor and minimize any disturbance of current landscaping and improvements whether on or off of the Ditch Company ownership. Tree Removal - Any trees and woody vegetation growth within 10 feet of the outside walls of the box culvert must be removed and treated to prevent regrowth. It was observed that the trees along the Ditch corridor are mature and many are leaning. These could pose a safety risk both during construction and for the proposed long-term river development plans for this area. However, we will not have an opportunity to secure "hotel group" approvals for additional tree removals until September 18th. Slope Stabilization Removal - It is the design intent that there will not be any slope stabilization (wood planking, riprap, etc.) removal required on the south side of the channel. The alignment of the box culverts is intended to be shifted toward the north side of the existing channel to provide an estimated clearance of 24-inches minimum to allow for installation of the works and compaction of the backfill . Active slope stabilization along the north side of the channel should not be removed beyond the anticipated extent of the box culvert installation. However, vegetation removal and basic shaping of the channel is still expected as shown and stated on the construction drawings. Existing Abandoned Sand Sluice Gates - As shown on the drawings at approximately Station 12+25 , it is anticipated that to have adequate space to install and backfill the box culvert sections it will be necessary to remove only the metal headgate works. It is anticipated, as shown, that it will be necessary to remove the concrete walls on the north side of the channel. - Structure Backfill - Backfill for the box culverts and retaining walls shall be as shown typical cross-sections shown on drawing sheets C3 and C4. No fill on top of the culvert is included under this contract. Materials over the top of the culvert will be installed later under plans for construction of the water park development. per the Imported General Fill - A force account item has been added in the event that the import of general fill material is required. Culvert Joint Sealing - The joints between the box culvert sections are to be sealed in accordance with CDOT Drawing M603-3. No grouting is anticipated if the joints are fully set and sealed with approved joint sealant. - Existing Pedestrian Bridge - It is believed that installation of the box culvert sections can be done without removal of the existing pedestrian bridge. The bridge has its own abutments and will not be load bearing on the box culvert structure.
