Site work and paving for a bridge / tunnel in Nipigon, Ontario. Completed plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
RFP is for the maintenance and repair of a 39.6 m DSHR1 Mabey Compact 200 series bridge that is located off Highway 11 on forestry access road 801 at kilometer marker 14. The bridge crosses the Namewaminikan River and is located within the Nipigon Geraldton District of the Ministry of Natural Resources. Maintenance work will include tightening and replacing any missing bolts, removing gravel from the deck, regrading approaches, replacing damaged section of guide rails, end treatments, offsets and posts. Full replacement of all the end posts (Mabey made) which will require the bridge to be jacked up. Scope of Work The Ministry of Natural Resources requires maintenance and rehabilitation work to be completed on a DSHR1 Mabey Compact 200 series bridge (39.6 m) to address deficiencies discovered during an inspection. The work needs to be completed in the late summer/early fall of 2026, before the ground freezes. The bridge is located within the Nipigon Geraldton District of the Ministry of Natural Resources off Hwy 11 on Road 801 at kilometer 14. UTM Coordinates 16U 5512720 N 444753 E The Contractor shall perform the following maintenance and repairs to the Bridge to restore it to a condition consistent with the Contract Drawings (Schedule 4) : 1 ) Check all bolts and tighten and replace where needed; 2) Remove gravel accumulation at the wearing surface, sway bracing and bearings, depositing such gravel to an appropriate location on site, provided that in no event shall gravel be deposited into the water course. 3) Regrade both approaches. 4) Replace damaged sections of curbs. 5) Replace missing chevron, green and white grader marker and post on the northwest corner of the Bridge 6) Replace damaged sections of guide rail , end treatments, offsets and posts, including: o Replace plastic offset blocks (Mondo) at SW corner i. 7-22" long ii. 4-14" long Replace Thrie Beam guide rail sections with splice bolts and nuts: i. 111ft long section SW corner ii. 17.5 ft long section - tapered Replace End Treatment at NE corner i. Replace large 6X6 open channel post ii . Replace 1st guide rail post - no block iii. Replace 14ft guide rail section 7) Full replacement of all the end posts (with Mabey-manufactured replacements or equivalent). Replace cracked and broken bolts between the transom and end posts (i.e. 'T-slots'), including: NE and NW corners one cracked on outside, broken inside. Replacement of such end posts will require the Bridge to be jacked up at both ends, which will require the Bridge to be closed to the public. The Contractor shall notify the Owner of its plans to close the Bridge at least 5 Business Days in advance, and the Owner will notify the public of such closure. The Contractor shall not keep the Bridge closed for longer than one week. Without limiting the generality of any of its other obligations, the Contractor shall ensure that any equipment used is free from all contamination and external oil and grease, and the Contractor shall not set any equipment in any body of water and shall not perform maintenance work on equipment in or near any body of water.
