Renovation of a power facility in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Completed plans call for the renovation of a power facility.
Installation of 2,500 linear feet of duct bank, 16,500 linear feet of primary cabling, switchgear and smart protective relays, and replacement of two 15 kV vacuum switchgears with arc flash resistant switchgears. This project serves to enhance the University's response to unplanned electrical distribution outages amongst the three substations that supply UNC's campus. The three substations serving the campus are Cameron Avenue, Manning, and South. The planned upgrades will allow the University to restore power more quickly and improve the resiliency across campus. This project will require creating approximately 2,500 linear feet of new duct bank and primary cabling arrangements totaling approximately 16,500 linear feet, along with switchgear and smart protective relays that communicate with the Electrical Distribution Systems SCADA system. A secondary goal of this project is to replace two General Electric 15 kV Powervac Vacuum Switchgears with two Arc Flash Resistant, 15 kV, 3000 Amp continuous, and 40 kA interrupting rating Switchgears located at the Cameron Substation. These replacement switchgears shall maintain hardwiring controls integration with the Cogeneration Systems Plant and communication controls interface with the Electrical Distribution Systems SCADA system.
