The work includes removal and preservation of the existing historic mechanical clock movement; rehabilitation of the three exterior clock faces, including their numerals, markings, hands, and finishes; furnishing and installation of a new clock system and controller meeting the specifications herein, based on Electric Time equipment or approved equivalent; installation of a compatible bell strike actuator; and all associated testing, programming, adjustment, and commissioning necessary to place the clock and chime into reliable operation. The Town of Berlin invites written quotations from qualified contractors to furnish all labor, materials, equipment, supervision, transportation, rigging, and incidentals necessary to rehabilitate the First Parish Town Clock. The clock is located in the steeple of First Parish Church. The Contractor shall coordinate access to the building and steeple with the Town and First Parish Church. The Contractor shall: Coordinate the work schedule with the Town of Berlin and First Parish Church. Coordinate delivery and installation of the specified clock and chime equipment. Provide all required safety measures and fall protection. Protect the church, clock components, architectural features, and surrounding property from damage during the work. Maintain the work area in a safe and orderly condition. Removal of Existing Clock Equipment:- The Contractor shall: Document existing conditions prior to removal. Carefully disconnect and remove the existing mechanical movement. Remove existing drive components and other obsolete equipment as necessary for installation of the new system. Remove clock face components as necessary to perform the rehabilitation and installation work. New Clock System :- Work shall include all equipment and installation necessary to provide a complete operating system, including: Clock movements. Master controller. Associated power supplies and controls. Mounting hardware. Wiring and electrical connections associated with the clock system. Drive components and connections to the clock hands. Mechanical and electrical adjustments. Programming and configuration. Synchronization of all three clock faces. Bell Strike and Chime System - Work shall include: Installation and mounting of the bell strike actuator. Associated mechanical hardware. Wiring and electrical connections. Connection to and integration with the clock controller. Programming of the chime function. Mechanical adjustment of the actuator and striking mechanism. Testing and adjustment to provide reliable operation without damage to the bell or associated historic components. The Town anticipates commencement of the project no later than November 2, 2026.
