Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Portland, Maine. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; and sidewalk / parking lot.
475' linear feet of sloped pathway down from Tukey's bridge to back cove trail system needs to be changed from stone dust pathway condition to asphalt path. Existing fence on either side of the pathway is aged and exhibiting paint peeling and material degradation from exposure to elements. Fencing is important for this project as the pathway directly abuts an active edge of I-295 on the south side of the trail edge, and steep embankment conditions directly down from trail shoulder into Back Cove mudflats and tidal waters. Work will most likely entail mobilization of equipment, removal of surface and some excavation of gully/ wash out areas. If the subbase (base stone of trail) is compromised, entire excavation and rebuilding of the base will be necessary. Possibly some shoulder / embankment stabilization could be possible, but unlikely for any fence repair or replacement. At least 3" thick asphalt surface course would be required to replace failing stone dust The project is included in the City's 2025-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of October 04, 2025, further details have not yet been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change. The content management team will continue to pursue additional details as they become available.
