The project includes all associated site development, such as utility infrastructure, grading, and landscaping, as well as provision of safe and efficient pedestrian and vehicular access, including improvements to Warwick Boulevard with dedicated turn lanes. The building will feature a structural steel frame on spread footings; exterior walls composed of glass and brick with standard cmu and gypsum wall board interior walls. The roof will be flat and supported by laminated wood beams. The original Virgil I. Grissom Library, built in 1976 and comprising of an existing 16,335 square feet building has been determined to be inadequate for the needs of the City's teeming population and library patrons. Consequently, City leadership has determined that a new library Grissom Public Library be developed at the old Sherwood Shopping Center, serving as the anchor for the redevelopment of the area.
