This project is for the continued development of John Saxon Jr. Memorial Community Park in Southeast Norman. In past years, the City was able to secure 80% funding for the initial development of parking and trail facilities (cross-country and fitness/walking trails) from the state of Oklahoma Recreational Trails Grant program. The remaining projects at the park include construction of children's play areas, restroom facilities, completion of the park road to connect to John Saxon Boulevard west of the park, construction of tournament-hosting and picnic pavilions, improved perimeter fencing, and other site amenities, as shown on the park's Master Plan. Work will proceed once an Ad-hoc Citizen's Advisory Committee can be fanned and set on this project's oversight and design process. As of December 27, 2023, this project is included in the city’s 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Project is currently funded for construction for FY2024. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
