Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in San Francisco, California. Completed plans call for the construction of a 175,000-square-foot, five-story above grade educational facility.
Phase 1 project consists of the design and construction of a building for research and academic functions. The 5 Story, 175,000 gross square foot building, to be located on the B/C Parking Lot on 23rd Street will contain research and academic functions only. Inpatient clinical functions are now located in the new Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center while outpatient clinical functions will be located in ZSFG Building 5, which are owned by CCSF Department of Public Health (DPH). Research faculty & staff conducting both wet and dry research will be accommodated in the new building, with ~30% wet research space and ~70% dry research space. The building will also provide administrative office space, including desktop research, dry core and computational labs, educational space, as well as diverse types of wet lab research space, including BSL-2 and BSL-3 labs and other laboratory facility types, as defined in the NIH and Design Guidelines. The building is located on the historic hospital campus, with buildings from several different architectural periods. It will need to respond appropriately to the adjacent historic architecture, while establishing its own identity as an Academic Research Building on the ZSFG campus Construction began August 19, 2020.
