Saving Project...

Renovation of an educational facility in Blacksburg, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.

As of September 16, 2022, this project has been paused indefinitely. Criteria documents were not completed, and there’s currently no timetable for resuming the project. *The original solicitation is listed below for reference. --- The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals for entering into a contract through competitive negotiations for the professional services of an Architectural/Engineering firm, authorized to do business in the Commonwealth of Virginia, with significant experience in the planning and designbuild delivery of university residential projects. Specifically, Virginia Tech is seeking a Criteria Consultant to develop criteria documents and assist the university in the preparation of a design-build Request for Proposal to be distributed to pre-qualified Design Build teams. Sustainability shall be embraced in all aspects of programmed space to have a more positive impact on the environment and meet the standards of the university. Firms responding to this RFP will be required to demonstrate experience with the US Green Building Council’s LEED certification process and assign to the project team a LEED accredited professional in each major design discipline. In keeping with the spirit of Virginia Tech’s goal of constructing facilities that can achieve a “Silver” LEED rating though submission for LEED certification, this project will keep the LEED principles in-mind to ensure a sustainable and efficient program. The A/E shall provide professional services for the project described in Part IV of this RFP consistent with the A/E Manual, as revised. The project site consists of the existing Slusher and Campbell Halls organized around Campbell Quadrangle. Located in the Student Life District at the core of campus, the buildings lie directly south of the Drillfield, west of the Agricultural Quad, and east of War Memorial Gymnasium. Dietrick Hall, to the south, is a major dining facility in the Student Life District, making the Slusher Hall site a potentially highly desirable rooming location. Slusher Hall was constructed from 1972 to 1974 with housing capacity for approximately 630 students within a 12-story tower and 3-story wing. Since that time it has received few improvements or renovations, carries a significant backlog of deferred maintenance, and doesn’t meet HRL’s Vision and Mission. The facility falls short of current and prospective student’s expectations for on-campus housing at Virginia Tech to support student life and experiential learning. Additionally, the 12-story massing of the tower does not fit within the character of Virginia Tech’s campus. The Hall is approximately 125,860 gross square feet.
