Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to a transportation facility in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Design plans call for the addition of a transportation facility.
Project is in City of Brooklyn Park capital budget FY 2024-2028. As of May 23, 2024, project is in design, construction expected FY2026-2028. The Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County released revised route options for the planned METRO Blue Line Extension which will connect communities from Downtown Minneapolis northwest to Brooklyn Park. The project's goal is to identify a single community supported route option by the end of 2021. Following the identification of a single community supported route, environmental review and engineering work will begin. This can be a long process and construction of the line is still likely many years away. The Blue Line runs between the Mall of America, in Bloomington, and downtown Minneapolis. Pending an agreement with BNSF, the Bottineau line would operate within the existing BNSF Railway corridor for about 8 miles between Highway 55, at the border of Golden Valley and Minneapolis, and 73rd Avenue North in Brooklyn Park. The Bottineau project team would relocate BNSF's track to the west side of the railroad's roughly 100-foot-wide corridor to make room to build the LRT double track on the eastern 50 feet.
