Information regarding design team has not been disclosed. *The closed solicitation has been included below for reference: State has programmed the construction of the Twin Ports Interchange project (TPI) in Duluth, Minnesota in S.P. 6980-60, which is part of the main interchange project 6982-322. The TPI Project will be located at the Junction of I-35, I-535, and TH 53 in Duluth and will replace the existing interchange known locally as the "Can of Worms". This contract includes rehabilitation design for the bridges in the Garfield Interchange: Bridges 69808, 69808A, and 69809. The Garfield Interchange is located 0.7 miles south of the main I-35/I-535 interchange at the intersection of I-535 and Garfield Avenue. The Garfield Interchange bridges include Bridge 69808 that carries I-535 NB and I-535 SB over BNSF Railroad and Garfield Avenue; together with Bridge 69808A that carries I-535 NB entrance ramp over an exit ramp and Garfield Avenue that merge into I-535 NB; and Bridge 69809 that carries I-535 SB exit ramp over BNSF Railroad. The existing bridges are steel beam type bridges that are planned to be rehabilitated by removal and replacement of the ntire steel beam superstructures with partial removal of the pier columns and abutments and reconstructing the pier columns and abutments onto existing footings and piling. The rehabilitation is intended to retain the existing portals with the same span configuration over BNSF Railroad, while minimizing excavation adjacent to the tracks by reusing pier footings, piles, (and possibly portions of the existing RR crash walls), along with portions of the abutments and abutment footings of these bridges. Preliminary bridge plans and Bridge Reconstruction Recommendations are currently under development by others, and will be provided to Contractor. Based on a separate test pile contract that included driving new test piles adjacent to the existing substructures, existing pile capacity for the existing foundations are being evaluated, and look promising for reuse based on test pile data and PDA data that was collected for the test piles. The overall TPI project includes three separate components: the main interchange, Trunk Highway (TH) 53 bridges from I35 to approximately 3rd Street, and the I-35 and Garfield Avenue interchange. Construction is anticipated in the 2020 - 2023 timeframe. The term of this contract is anticipated to run from March 2019 through February 2024.
