Renovation of a mixed-use development in Edmonton, Alberta. Completed plans call for the renovation of a educational facility.
The project includes the following two (2) phases: .1 Phase One: Mechanical Renewal .2 Phase Two: Wet Lab Development Phase One is to replace and/or renew the associated base building mechanical ventilation systems servicing the second and third floors for the Brain and Aging Research Building (BARB). The proposed program shall include for the complete replacement of the existing base building ventilation system servicing these floors, reconnection of the existing second floor air distribution system to the new base building service and replacement of the existing third floor air-distribution system including the supply and installation of a new Air Handling Unit (AHU) by the successful Construction Manager. The successful Construction Manager will need to consider various construction strategies to help mitigate or minimize end user impacts in collaboration with the University and Consultant. The existing basement and main floor levels shall remain continuously occupied and fully serviced throughout and after the renovations. As well, due to the research being conducted on the second floor it shall also remain continuously occupied and fully serviced during the renovations. The Construction Cost Limitation for this Work is $1.7 million GST Extra, including the purchasing of the mechanical equipment. For Phase Two, the University is exploring opportunities for additional funding and the project could expand further to include wet lab development and/or full wet lab fitout on the third floor of the building. Funding is in place for Pre-Construction Services but not Construction/Post Construction Services. If approved in full, the project will significantly expand and enhance research and innovation capacity through the development of additional wet lab space on campus. The Construction Cost Limitation for this Work is $4.7 million GST Extra.
