Site work for a mixed-use development in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Conceptual plans call for site work for a development; playground / park / athletic field; and water / sewer project.
The project is included in the City of Bedford's 2022-2026 capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of May 30, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. A firm timeline for construction has not been established; however, funding is allotted to fiscal years 2023-2024. A detailed scope has not yet been determined. This project would restore the pond at Buttonwood Park. The pond is created by a dam, originally constructed in 1902, whose repeated failures result in periodic flooding downstream in the park. The state’s Office of Dam Safety has designated this dam as a significant hazard and has urged the city to make structural repairs. The project scope would include reconstruction of the dam, dredging of the pond, and cleanup of the area resulting in enhanced recreational use, permit compliance, and public safety. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly.
