For Airport Drive Slope Correction The intent and purpose of this Invitation for Bid is to solicit bids from qualified, experienced, and licensed contractors to provide all labor, equipment, materials, and supervision necessary to substantially complete the work in accordance with the terms and conditions, and scope of work as described herein for the Capital Region Airport Commission. The project scope is to provide slope correction measures to a failed embankment along S. Airport Drive on RIC Airport property. The area to be corrected is bounded to the east, west, and north by the split lanes of S. Airport Drive northbound, and by Clarkson Road to the south. The existing embankment is approximately 20 feet tall. The proposed improvements consist of excavation and benching of the failed slope throughout the failure area. A drainage layer of geotextile fabric-wrapped stone will be placed in the excavation, which will then be backfilled with suitable structural fill. The drainage layer will tie to a proposed underdrain system, which will be installed with this project. The underdrain system is located at the toe of the existing slope and will outfall to existing storm sewer structures at the toe of the slope. The entire area is to be stabilized with hydroseed and mulch after the slope correction is completed. Women- and minority-owned businesses are encouraged to participate.
