In September of 2017, the Town purchased approximately 30 acres of land with the intention of developing a regional park in the northwest quadrant of Apex. The 2022 Master Plan update will include a conceptual plan with recommended facilities to meet needs of community. The Wimberly Road parkland is significant in its location near the White Oak Creek watershed area, access to the American Tobacco Trail, and East Coast Greenway. Preliminary project needs per public input include indoor recreation space (gymnasium/classrooms), passive open space, community gardens, and environmental education and conservation opportunities. As of November 9, 2023, this project is included in the Town of Apex's 2024-2028 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and funding is allotted for FY 25-26 and future years beyond FY 27-28. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
