Demolition, site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Completed plans call for the demolition of a municipal facility; for the construction of a 30,000-square-foot pre-engineered storage facility; and for site work for a pre-engineered storage facility.
As of February 12, 2020, construction is just now underway. The original solicitation is below for historical data purposes. On December 3, 2019, the Fort Smith Board of Directors considered an ordinance amending the 2020 proposed operating budget to appropriate a $2.8 million insurance claim received in October for the Port of Fort Smith flood damage. The city is still owed roughly $600,000 for the port from the insurance company and $10 million between the insurance company and FEMA, according to officials. The purpose of this solicitation is to select a qualified Design-Build firm, in coordination with the Port Authority of the City of Fort Smith that will lead the reconstruction of the Port of Fort Smith, which was destroyed in the flood of May/June 2019. The project will include at least two bulk storage facilities of at least 30,000 square feet each in size, as well as an office building/scalehouse facility. The Port Authority is seeking proposals with the goal of contracting with a firm that will design and carry out all the required reconstruction services.
