Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in Burnaby, British Columbia. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a municipal facility; recreation facility; conference / convention center; restaurant; and restaurant.
Construction of a Metrotown Events Centre (MEC) multi-use facility that accommodates performances, conferences, exhibits, and a variety of event formats. It is also intended to be a prominent civic venue that will enhance arts, culture and entertainment in Burnaby. The study recommends a building facility program for the MEC that encompasses a 60,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose event space supported by an atrium lobby/pre-function crush space (40,080 sq. ft.), back-of-house (26,950 sq. ft.), breakout meeting rooms (18,000 sq. ft.), and range of support spaces including administration offices, retail, cafes/restaurants, and community office spaces. TIMELINE: The city has reorganized their priorities and this project will not proceed at this time. Coverage is discontinued.
