As of November 20, 2024, this project is in final design. It received Planning Commission approval in June 2021. A firm construction timeline has not been established, but bidding is tentatively anticipated for Spring 2025. *The previous solicitation is listed below for reference. ---- The City has issued this Request for Qualifications (RFQU) in order to solicit Qualifications from interested and qualified Landscape Architecture or Civil Engineering firms to provide design and engineering services to convert the existing natural turf diamond field to a synthetic turf multipurpose field including supporting field infrastructure. The park areas specified in this RFQU are limited to the existing field and area of supporting infrastructure. In 1996, a Special Use Permit (SUP) was approved for the Cameron Station West Park, later renamed as Armistead L. Boothe Park. This SUP approved the current diamond ball field with overlay, parking, lights, supporting field infrastructure, as well as the playground, ball courts and bathroom. A subsequent SUP was approved for the existing scoreboard in right field. In the fall 2019, the Alexandria City Council approved funding for the Boothe Park Field conversion project. The project will convert the existing natural turffield to a synthetic infill turf system. The conversion project will alleviate pressure on athletic fields in the City’s West End and improve playing conditions for park users. This design will be based on the current conditions, approved SUPs for the park, and City Council direction to modify the field type. The design and construction drawings will be used by the City as contractual documents for bidding and construction purposes.
