This project is to repaint the interior and exterior of the SE Delaware Ground Storage Tank. The existing paint is starting to show signs of wear as the usefulness of the existing coating is breaking down. Typically one can expect painted surfaces to last in the 15-20 year range. This ground storage tank was last painted around the year 2000 and still has the previous City of Ankeny Logo on it. This project is needed to maintain the ability to provide safe and potable drinking water to Ankeny residents. Maguire Iron completed a review of our existing water storage infrastructure and made recommendations to recoat both the interior and exterior of the SE Delaware Ground Storage Tank. This tank is showing signs of streaking and spotting rust in areas on both surfaces. To overcoat this facility it would require a brush blast to rough up the existing surface to allow for a better bonding of new coating to existing coating. The project is included in the city's 2023-2027 capital improvement plan (CIP).
