Site work and paving for a mixed-use development in Ames, Iowa. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; sidewalk / parking lot; sidewalk / parking lot; water / sewer project; and bridge / tunnel.
The general nature of the work on which bids are requested is: 307 SY of pavement removal, 2300 SY of 6" PCC Shared Use path, 216 SY of 7" PCC Pavement, 671 CY of 8" Special Backfill Subbase, 825 CY of Class 10 Excavation, 822 CY of On-Site Topsoil, 2 Storm Sewer Intakes, 110 LF of Pipe Culverts, and miscellaneous related work and appurtenances in accordance with the contract documents. Doc Note - The plans and specifications are now on file in the office of the City Clerk. Copies thereof may be obtained at the office of the Public Works Department. One set of bidding documents for the above project is available without charge to prospective bidders, i.e. qualified general contractors. A $25.00 fee will apply to additional sets and to bidding documents requested by other than prospective bidders as defined herein. The City of Ames Public Works Department is the only authorized source of bidding documents and proposal forms. Bidding documents and proposal forms obtained from any other source may have an incomplete set of documents. Bidders using bidding documents and/or proposal forms not obtained from the City of Ames Public Works Department are advised to contact the City of Ames Public Works Department to provide a contact name, mailing address, and phone number to enable receipt of necessary addenda. Reproduction of these documents without the express permission of the City of Ames is prohibited. Each bidder shall accompany its bid with bid security as defined in Code of Iowa Section 26.8 and as specified in the Instructions to Bidders. Work shall commence as soon as possible after award and approval of the contract and performance bond. Work shall be completed no later than the designated contract completion date of October 15, 2025. Should the contractor fail to complete the work by this date, liquidated damages of $1,000 per calendar day will be assessed. Each successful bidder shall be required to furnish a corporate surety bond in an amount equal to one hundred percent (100%) of its contract price. Said bond is to be issued by a responsible surety approved by the City Council, shall guarantee the faithful performance of the contract and the terms and conditions therein contained, shall guarantee the prompt payment of all material and labor, protect and save harmless the City from claims and damages of any kind caused by the operations of the contract, and shall guarantee the maintenance of the improvement in good repair for a period of two (2) years from and after completion and acceptance by the City. The guaranteed maintenance period shall be four (4) years for new paving. The City does hereby reserve the right to reject any or all bids, to waive informalities, and to enter into such contract, or contracts, as it shall deem to be in the best interest of the City. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
