The 2040 Ames Area Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP), which became effective on October 12, 2015, identified a wide range of transportation improvements including those projects that utilize technology referred to as Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). The 2045 LRTP shows the completion of the program with Phase 6 implementation. Traffic signal improvements rank as one of the highest priority areas from the Ames Resident Satisfaction Survey. 2025/26 Phase 6: South 16th Street; South Grand Avenue; South Dayton Avenue (network extensions/looping) The project is included in the city's 2022-2027 capital improvement plan (CIP). As of January 3, 2023, further details regarding design and construction have not been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
