Contractor Qualification Highway Division The work to be done under this contract shall consist of making permanent repairs to pavement disturbed as a result of previous utility or private construction. Repair areas will be a minimum of four feet by four feet and a maximum of curb-to-curb width by 100 feet in length. Work will be structured using a zone-based approach by Public Works "Snow Maps." The Public Works Engineer will identify all areas to be repaired within a Snow Map district prior to work by the Contractor. The Contractor shall sawdust or grind out the repair area as identified by the Engineer. All cold patch or other temporary patch material, including back-fill, shall be removed to a depth of 6 14 inches on non-arterial roadways and 7 14 inches on arterial roadways within the repair area. The exposed gravel sub-base shall then be tamped with a pneumatic tamper to eliminate any voids which may have been caused by improper back-fill methods when the original excavation was made. New gravel may be placed under items 451.35 or 451.85 at the discretion of the .Engineer^ .The^placement of new gravel when directed shall be considered incidental to the work and no additional compensation will be allowed. The vertical edges of all patches will be painted with a tack coat. Furnish and place an average of 5 inches on non-arterial roadways and 6 inches on arterial roadways of Hot Mix Asphalt Dense Binder (Super pave Intermediate Course - (SSC - 19.0 mm)) in two lifts and compact with a vibratory roller. Areas left not flush to grade after they are open to traffic must be painted with safety pink paint along all edges. Within three days of the binder placement, furnish and place an average of 1 14 inch wearing surface of Super pave Surface Course - (SSC - 9.5 (Boston)) and compact with a 10-ton roller. The perimeter of the repair area will be painted with tack coat and finished with sand. Any disturbed pavement markings or wire loop detectors will be furnished and installed within two weeks of the completion of the pavement. No roadways are to be paved curb-to-curb until the pedestrian ramps within the limits have been confirmed to be Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (MAAB) compliant. The work shall also include: furnishing and installing Utility Repair Tags (A-tags); filling large holes or depressions with asphalt pavement; adjusting castings when directed by the Engineer; installing or repairing bituminous sidewalks and driveways where directed; installing pavement markings for proposed road lanes, crosswalks, and bike lanes where required; and installing wire loop detectors where required. All work shall be performed Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM on residential streets and from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM on arterial streets, unless indicated otherwise in Sections 2.2 or 2.3, or as determined by the Commissioner and/or the Boston Transportation Department. Contractors may propose alternative working hours at each Location of Work for consideration by the Department. The Contractor shall submit his or her Preliminary Work Plan to the Department for approval. It is the Department's intent to accommodate the Contractor's schedule as best possible and the two entities will work together to address and remedy any potential conflicts. No work shall be started until the Contractor's Preliminary Work Plan and methods of operation have been This work shall conform to the accompanying Special Provisions, Technical Specifications, Contract Drawings, the Massachusetts Highway Department, 1988 edition of the Standard Specifications for Highway and Bridges - Divisions II and III - with supplements, the Rules and Specifications for Excavation in the City of Boston where applicable, and the Boston Water & Sewer Commission Standards where applicable. Requirements and covenants are set forth herein. *This project has been abandoned due to the public health crisis. There are no plans to move forward with design or construction.
