Demolition, site work and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Lexington, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; and for the construction of a bridge / tunnel.
Replace the Welch Park Road bridge over Sarahs Run in its entirety. This single barrel corrugated steel arch pipe culvert is nominally 23 feet long by 30 feet wide. This structure is approaching the end of its design service life. Its condition is deemed substandard given the section loss in the steel arch. This bridges continued integrity, safety and reliability are questionable in its present state. This structure will be replaced by a new concrete box culvert. It is anticipated that future VDOT funds will be acquired for the full cost of replacement. As December 28, 2022, this project is currently in the FY 2023 - 2027 CIP. Funding for this project is allotted in the city's capital improvement plan for construction FY 2024/25. A firm timeline has not been established; however, construction is scheduled for Fiscal Year 2024/25. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
