Stairwell Upgrades of the facility: handrails, guardrails, exit doors, frames and hardware, all stairwells (approximately 24 stairwells/200 levels) of Les Terrasses de la Chaudière complex shall be reviewed and corrected for code compliance. Preparation work to global enhancement also includes removal of the recessed decommissioned fire cabinets located at 10 Wellington. The consultant shall then develop a design strategy to visually enhance the stairwells and increase their daily use by individuals. The project includes the refreshing of all stairwells and their content such as (but not limited to) ceilings, walls, floor, doors, frames, mechanical equipment and staircases (handrails, guardrails, treads, risers, nosings) as well as a complete signage revision and the relabeling of all the technical equipment. A design strategy to enlighten these spaces and make them more attractive shall be used such as bright colors (painting), relevant signage (including tactile), wayfinding and graphics that encourage stair use. Create warmth in these spaces and making them appealing is a top-priority. Consultant to re-evaluate all existing finishes and recommend new ones with permanent or longer lifespans than regular painting (such as epoxy coating for main landings, permanent textured stair nosings, etc). The Consultant shall provide recommendations on all code violations and include photos of findings. The review shall be based on the latest CSA B651 "Accessible Design for the built Environment" and the latest National Building Code. TIMELINE: Design is complete. Tender and construction timelines have not been established yet. Further update in late winter/spring, 2026.
