Construction of an Arts and Culture Centre. Two potential locations are proposed, 48 Ste. Marie St., which is currently a municipally owned parking lot, The proposed development will include a 43,000- to 48,000-square-foot centre, with a 400- to 500-seat performance theatre, as well as a smaller theatre with flexible seating for up to 250. The centre would also include front-of-house space, gathering areas, administration offices, classrooms, and retail and market space. TIMELINE: The consultant completed a feasibility study including solutions in research, economic analysis, strategy and policy analysis to evaluate the needs of the arts and cultural sectors in the community, and to determine if and to what degree an arts and cultural centre would be feasible in Collingwood. The architect is has completed preliminary design which was included in the feasibility study. The owner is in the process of refining the results of the feasibility study to be submitted to Council for approval late 2023 with a recommendation on the scope of the Arts and Culture Centre. Phase 2 report was presented to the Corporate & Community Services Standing Committee at its April 3 2023 meeting and made recommendations regarding size, scope, and site. A Request For Proposals for an architect to complete working drawings and future schedules for working drawings, tender and construction are undetermined pending funding and approvals. The method of contractor selection has not been determined at this time.
