Site work and paving for a road / highway in Palatka, Florida. Completed plans call for site work for a road / highway; and for paving for a road / highway.
The objective of this work order is to pave the existing limerock road. The roadway is approximately 0.9 miles long by 24-feet wide (see site map attached to Statement of Work). All work shall comply with the FDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction. The engineer's construction estimate for the project is $125,000.00. The Three Forks conservation area comprises a significant portion of the Upper St. Johns River Basin Project, a cooperative effort with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to provide flood control and environmental protection in the region. The first discernible channels of the St. Johns River (Three Forks) arise within the marsh south of Lake Hell 'n' Blazes. One of the primary access points to enjoy the expansive sawgrass marshes and open vistas is from the Tom O. Lawton Recreation Area (Tom Lawton). The Recreation Area is located at the western end of Malabar Road in Palm Bay. The area is highly visited by the public. Contractor's Responsibilities: o Conduct a preconstruction meeting with District operations staff 48-hours in advance of mobilizing to site. o Mobilize to site and provide all labor, equipment and material to complete the project. o Place warning signs for drivers informing construction ahead/slow traffic. Maintain flagmen as necessary for equipment working on the access road. Provide appropriate MOT around work area including, but not limited to, traffic barriers, cones, barrels, etc. o Grade and compact the existing limerock roadway with a 2% crown from the center, maintaining a 12-foot lane width in each direction. Compact to 98% modified proctor density. o Place 2-inch (compacted thickness) asphalt concrete surface (SP-12.5). a. Plant and equipment shall comply with the current requirements of section 320 (Hot Mix Asphalts - Plant, Methods and Equipment) b. General construction requirements shall comply with the current requirements of Section 330 Hot Mix Asphalts - General Construction Requirements) c. Asphalt mix shall comply with the requirements of Section 334 (Superpave Asphaltic Concrete) d. Apply tack coat between hot mix asphalt layers per the current requirements of Section 300 (Prime and Tack Coats) e. Prime Coat is not required for this project unless the prepared base course is exposed and inclement weather is expected before paving will occur f. The contractor is responsible for ensuring the quality and acceptance of the asphalt mixture including field testing of asphalt pavement to ensure compliance with specifications. Contractor will coordinate with the District regarding the timing and location of testing. The asphalt mixture will be accepted at the plant with respect to gradation, asphalt content and volumetrics. The mixture will be accepted on the roadway with respect to density of roadway cores. For this project three (3) equally spaced 6-inch cores shall be obtained within 24 hours of placement at random locations directed by the Project Manager. These samples shall be tested in accordance with current section 334- 5.1.1 (Sampling and Testing Requirements) o Demobilize from site. The Contractor shall take care to protect all existing structures, roads, utilities and other improvements from damage. Additionally, the Work will be considered complete only after all rubbish and unused material associated with the Work has been removed and the premises left in a condition satisfactory to the District. All property disturbed or damaged during prosecution of the Work shall be restored to its former condition or better at no additional expense to the District.
