A timeline for the award is not yet established.** This project will provide a resilient new operational and maintenance headquarters for the NYC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) on the Rockaway Peninsula. Replacing the existing facility, which was heavily damaged during Hurricane Sandy, the new headquarters will better serve the community by facilitating DPR's operations along 5.5 miles of beachfront and serving as a preparedness, communications, and operations center for DPR's emergency response. The facility is for DPR use only and will not be open to the public. The project will include demolition of the existing garage and maintenance yard and construction of a new ~11,000 SF building and ~42,000 SF maintenance yard with fueling station. The new building will accommodate both administrative and operational functions above the design flood elevation (DFE), including offices, multipurpose room, maintenance shop, and equipment storage, as well as support functions such as locker rooms, restrooms, and break room. Open space below the DFE will be used for storage. The yard will accommodate circulation and parking for operations and staff vehicles, electric vehicle charging stations, a vehicle wash station, a maintenance area with storage, and fueling station. The facility will remain operational throughout construction, so a phasing plan will be required.
