CR Number - 2070415 GOSR Island Park Downtown Revitalization and Complete Streets Intersection and mid-block bulb-outs are being proposed in this downtown segment as a way to improve pedestrian accommodations, calm traffic and create an overall safer environment. The pedestrian or sidewalk bulb-out is an extension of the curb and sidewalk into the shoulder area of the roadway, narrowing the vehicular path, which will decrease the travel for pedestrian crossings. As part of the reconstruction and design process, all proposed sidewalks, aprons and curb ramps will be reconstructed to meet the current ADA/PROWAG standards for pedestrian accommodations. The proposed drainage mitigations will include a mix of conventional and green infrastructure designs. The new drainage structures will collect the storm water runoff to the south and to separately collect the north runoff. These systems need to be separated due to the high point on Long Beach Road and based on the limited elevations and to meet existing inverts. It is proposed to connect to the system on Warwick Road and also connect to the system that continues to the north along Long Beach Road. As part of the project, the roadway riding surface will be replaced to improve the ride quality as well as the aesthetics of the downtown area. The roadway will require a large amount of reconstruction in areas where the bulb-outs are construction, new drainage structures and pipes are placed.
