Site work and new construction of a playground / park / athletic field in Sacramento, California. Design plans call for the construction of a 120,000-square-foot playground / park / athletic field; and for site work for a playground / park / athletic field.
The California Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) in collaboration with the Governors Office and Natural Resource Agency is requesting Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from qualified and licensed Professional Architectural and Engineering firms (Contractor) experienced in providing professional services for the planning, design, and construction of cultural facilities in public parks. Project delivery and design requirements include working with a public/private partnership that aligns the California Native American perspective within a public forum. Architectural & Engineering services will be provided for the development of the California Indian Heritage Center (CIHC) State Park located in West Sacramento, California, within the California State Park System. DPR is requesting SOQs from these Contractors only. The total estimated project cost (at total build-out) is $200 million and may be achieved in a phased approach pending availability of funds. Part of the design work will be to identify an achievable and acceptable scope of construction, cost estimates to develop the project within available funds and operational capabilities. As of January 23, 2026, this project is in the design phase. Working Drawings for the initial phase of construction are scheduled to begin in January 2026 and will be approved in June 2027. Construction for the Immediate Public Use is scheduled to begin in November 2026 and will be completed in March 2027. The first phase of construction is scheduled to begin in December 2027 and will be completed in May 2030.
