Renovation and Expansion of Existing Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre. The new community centre expansion will be designed to high quality architectural and engineering standards. The Project will provide additional spaces and services to the existing Chuck Bailey Recreation Centre, uniting all ages, abilities and cultures in stronger physical, social and emotional health - a state-of-the-art community hub for Whalley residents to play, exercise, learn, socialize, and to enjoy a fun, inclusive and healthy environment, including gymnasium, fitness, preschool and afterschool programming, childcare, multipurpose rooms, and community rooms. It is anticipated that the Project will mainly include two distinct parts: (a) Renovation of Existing Recreation Centre (about 900 square metres): the renovation works will mainly include tenant improvements to level 2 of the existing recreation center to create three childcare spaces for various ages, and partial renovation and upgrades to level 1 to enhance the seniors programmed spaces; and (b) New-Build Expansion (about 3,600 square metres): the new expansion will mainly include large multipurpose community hall, art space, community kitchen, multipurpose gymnasium, fitness studio, weight room, meeting rooms, washrooms and change rooms, admin and supporting spaces. The new expansion will also include 95 underground parking stalls, landscape, and open social spaces along with associated offsite works. TIMELINE: Construction is underway.
