Completed plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; for paving for a bridge / tunnel; road / highway; road / highway; and water / sewer project.

The notice to proceed was issued on August 13th, 2021, and construction is expected to be complete by May 16th, 2025. The project provides for the staged full depth roadway reconstruction and widening of the Pennsylvania Turnpike from 2 lanes in each direction to 3 lanes in each direction and the replacement of 3 mainline bridges. The project includes the removal of 2 single span multi-beam bridges and one 3 span continuous steel multi-girder bridge. The project requires construction of one 3 span continuous composite steel multi-girder bridge, one single span composite steel multi-beam bridge, and one single span composite pre-stressed spread box beam bridge. Additional construction includes 4 retaining walls, 9 sound barrier walls, 9 sign structures and 2 arch culvert extensions. The contract also provides signing and pavement marking, ramps to the Valley Forge Service Plaza, milling and overlaying portions of the Turnpike and side roads, as well as 6 aboveground stormwater basins and other drainage modifications. An electronic bid bond, from an approved vendor, with corporate surety, in the amount of five (5%) percent of the bid must be submitted with the proposal as bid security. The bid security of the three (3) low bidders will be retained until the execution of the contract. (The normal time for execution of the contract is approximately four [4] weeks.) A Prequalification Certification and Applicable Capacity Rating assigned by the Prequalification Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is a necessary prerequisite for bidding on this project.
