Site work and new construction of a mixed-use development in La Puente, California. Completed plans call for the construction of a swimming pool; for site work for a three-acre swimming pool; and 10,800-square-foot clubhouse / community center.

As of May 16, 2023, an awarded design builder has been identified. Construction is expected to commence mid summer 2023. Project consists of a new aquatic center that includes an Olympic-sized, 50-meter competitive swimming pool, a smaller practice and recreational pool, bleachers and swim team areas, and state-of-the-art amenities to facilitate competitive swimming events and water sports. Adjacent to the pool area, an auxiliary building will include classroom space for swim teams and community events, offices, locker rooms with showers, public restrooms, and a break area for staff as well as a mechanical building for maintenance equipment. Work includes a one-acre park with exercise areas, a shade structure, pollinator garden, and a plaza and outdoor amphitheater for student and public use. The park will provide access to the adjacent County-owned and operated Allen J. Martin Park. _________________________ From original solicitation: The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works is issuing this Request For Proposals from qualified Design-Build firms. Design-Build firms will submit Part A proposals for the San Gabriel Valley Aquatic Center located at 635 North California Avenue, La Puente, CA 91744. The San Gabriel Aquatic Center project site is approximately four-acres which is surrounded by low density residential areas in the unincorporated area of La Puente, CA. The project site is currently part of the Temple Academy campus (Hacienda-LaPuente Unified School District). The County will lease an approximately four-acre portion of the current campus from the School District. The Aquatic Center will be located in the west corner of the campus. Vehicular access will be provided off Temple Avenue. The Aquatic Center site will have a common border with Allen J. Martin Park, another LA County property, operated by the Department of Parks and Recreation. Pedestrian access from Allen J. Martin Park to the Aquatic Center will be available. The San Gabriel Aquatic Center is a new recreation facility that will provide the Los Angeles County Residents access to an Olympic-size competition swimming pool, a smaller practice pool, a pool building, one-acre park space. and other amenities signage, fencing, and bleachers. The Aquatic Center building will include a lobby/check-in area, staff observation room, dressing/restroom facilities, and an instructional classroom. Adequate parking and a secure perimeter will also be incorporated. The one-acre park space will include items such as a pollinator garden, a picnic space with a shade structure, a natural playground area, an amphitheater, a plaza space, and a fitness loop with exercise equipment. This park space should tie seamlessly into the Allen J. Martin Park. The DesignBuilder will coordinate with the Parks Department on the new park elements so as to not repeat amenities (i.e. exercise equipment). Public Works is also working on a stormwater capture project at the Allen J. Martin Park. The County Department of Parks and Recreation maintains and operates the Allen J. Martin Park and is working with Public works on the surface improvements involved with the stormwater capture requirements. The Hacienda-La Puente Unified School District is planning to build a performing art center at the corner of E. Temple Avenue and N. California Avenue with parking along E. Temple Avenue. The Design-Builder will work with the School District to provide seamless access from the new Aquatic Center parking and the performing art center parking. The timing of the stormwater project at Allen J. Martin Park and the performing art center is unknown at this time, but may occur simultaneously with the Aquatic Center project. The Design-Builder will facilitate community outreach and incorporate community feedback into the design.
