Site work and paving for a civil project in Ontonagon, Michigan. Conceptual plans call for site work for a road / highway; for paving for a road / highway; water / sewer project; and water / sewer project.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Parks and Recreation Division (PRD) is requesting professional Phase 100 and Phase 500 engineering services for the evaluation and design of the following scope item. Scope Item #1 - The PSC shall perform a Phase 100 Study and then Phase 500 Final Design on the existing aggregate and asphalt pavements at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park's Headquarters Road Area. The Phase 100 Study will apply to all aggregate and asphalt pavements, including roads and parking lots, found along (and extending from) Headquarters Road at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. The Visitor Center Parking Lot, Headquarters Visitor Parking Area, Headquarters Service Area Parking Lot, and Manager's Residence Driveway are all included in the scope of work. The Phase 100 Study will include pavement cores / soil borings and soils analysis. The study is requested to investigate pavement reconstruction, pavement rehabilitation, and pavement preventative maintenance strategies for performing upgrades to the park's roads while applying a cost effective & technically effective strategy for ensuring high quality pavement conditions. This may include a variety of pavement treatments, such as: full pavement reconstruction, crush and shape, mill and resurface, HMA overlays, or seals (single chip, double chip, fog seal) A second focus of the Phase 100 Study will be to perform an analysis of storm water management on existing ditches and spillways associated with all roadways and parking lots in the project scope. This storm water management analysis should evaluate existing topographic surveys and collect any additional topographic and site survey information necessary for developing solutions for storm water management. The primary issue is managing storm water associated with the Headquarters Service Area Parking Lot. Sheet flow from adjacent lands is combined with roof run off to produce a flow path of storm water run off which is centrally located within the parking lot. Developing plans for the above grade and below grade hydraulic conditions may be necessary for quality long term pavements. The ditches associated with the Headquarters and Manager's Residence roadway may also require improvements due to the volume of water that moves down this corridor and to Jamison Creek Finally, as a third focus of the Phase 100 Study, the PSC is requested to inspect and verify the performance of the recent 7' diameter x 120' long corrugated metal pipe culvert and associated compacted backfill which was installed beneath Headquarters Road as part of a joint DNR and Michigan National Guard training exercise. The PSC is asked to recommend corrective action, if any, at the culvert installation prior to the construction of new pavements. Phase 100 Study and Phase 500 Final Design/Bidding to be completed by April 8, 2022. Please do not submit online questions through SIGMA VSS. ALL questions should be emailed to Jeff Barsch at barschj@michigan.gov by Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 5:00 p.m The method of Contractor Selection has not been Determined at this time.
