Demolition, site work, renovation and addition to a laboratory facility in Smyrna, Delaware. Completed plans call for the addition of a laboratory facility; for the demolition of a laboratory facility; for the renovation of a laboratory facility; and for site work for a laboratory facility.
The overall work consists of two very similar expansion Projects. Both Projects are set to expand the Public Health Laboratory square footage and working environments. The Project to begin first is the design and construction of an expansion of the Division of Public Health Laboratory (DPHL), a 32,560 sf facility located at 30 Sunnyside Road, Smyrna, DE. This Project is set to focus on two additional laboratories for increased SARS-CoV-2 testing, increased warehouse and mechanical/electrical space, and external elements such as parking. Project One may also call for administrative and training area expansion. Project Two creates further additions to the building to include increased administrative areas for offices and multipurpose space for staff and activities related to COVID-19 and sustainability of Public Health Programs expanded by the pandemic response. Project Two consists of the design and construction of an addition of the northern side of the facility for an administrative office area, with other details being developed as Project One is designed. Subsequent to the Project One's completion, with programming and design being developed during the course of Project One, Project Two will begin construction.
