The goal participation ranges for this project are: women-owned businesses five percent (5%) to ten percent (10%); minority-owned businesses five percent (5%) to ten percent (10%); other diverse and/or disadvantaged businesses five percent (5%) to ten percent (10%); and local businesses best and good faith efforts. Estimated total construction cost of project is $10,520,050 We understand that the Institute will consist of renovations to the existing building, plus the addition of 15,000 square feet (sf) of floor space. It is unclear at this time if the added floor space will be an overbuild of the existing building, and/or a 15,000 square foot (sf) addition to the footprint of the building. The existing building appears to be one-story with no basement. Based on our knowledge of regional geology, we presume that the structure is supported on conventional shallow spread foundations and perimeter strip footings. Our proposal consists of a geotechnical investigation consisting of 3 test pits conducted around the perimeter of the existing building and 4 test borings performed within the footprint of the proposed addition. The goal ofthe test pitinvestigation is to: A) determine the nature and relative dimensions ofthe existing perimeter footings, and B) determine the existing foundation bearing conditions and an estimate of the allowable bearing capacity. We will subcontract an excavating contractor to supply a mini-excavator and operator to conduct the test pits. The test pits will be located along the outside perimeter of the existing building, in grass areas. We will attempt to determine the dimensions of the existing perimeter footings, the bearing depth, the bearing conditions, and other pertinent information. Without undermining the existing footings, we will extend the test pits to the maximum functional depth of the mini-excavator (approximately 8 to 10 feet) or refusal on bedrock, if shallower. We will log each test pit, sketch footing dimensions, and collect representative bulk soil samples. Upon completion of each test pit, we will backfill with the excavated soil, tamping with the backhoe bucket, and will replace topsoil/sod. Settlement of the test pit excavation is unlikely but may occur. As an add/alternate service, the subcontractor can backfill the test pits in lifts, compacting each lift with a hoe-pac, and then rake/seed/mulch each location
