Design Build Services Lake Conine Nature Park Recreation Elements The Lake Conine Nature Park Recreation Elements Project is located on the southeast shore of Lake Conine~ in Winter Haven. One of the original plats of the Winter Haven area dates back to 1850. Lake Conine is depicted on that plat and a wetland is depicted on the southeast shore of Lake Conine. Over time, development occurred including railroads, neighborhoods, roadways and other infrastructure which essentially made this area a non-functioning wetland full of overgrowth and muck. In the early 2000s, the City began to acquire this property with the goal of reestablishing a functioning wetland and stormwater treatment facility on the property. The project site consists of reestablished wetlands & stormwater facilities and the berm of an abandoned railroad corridor. The wetlands were of poor quality and not functioning properly. Currently phase 1 of this project is finalizing completion which includes reestablishing the wetlands in a fashion which will allow the water from Lake Conine and runoff from the surrounding roadways and neighborhood to filter through a new wetland marsh system, ultimately improving the overall water quality in Lake Conine. The restoration of the wetland marsh system will also provide a high quality habitat for several species including wading birds, reptiles, and fish. This is being accomplished with the removal of muck, removal of nuisance exotics, constructing a series of ponds & berms and stormwater infrastructure. The site will then be replanted with high quality wetland trees and plantings
