Under Act 181 of 1984, the Department of Environmental Protection solicits letters of interest from the landowners and licensed mine operators for the reclamation of abandoned strip mine projects identified as the King Project No. PBF 33830117.3 in Pine Creek township, Jefferson County (KING), the Orcutt-Smail Project No. PBF 33803040.8 in Union Township , Jefferson County (ORCUTT-SMAIL), and the Ruth Project No. PBF 10820121.1 in Venango Township, Butler County (RUTH). These projects require operation and maintenance of acid mine drainage systems. Reclamation work for KING and RUTH may involve the repair of existing passive treatment systems and access roads, monitoring and maintaining performance of passive treatment systems, water sampling, and other operation and maintenance (O&M) functions as directed by the Knox District Mining Office. Reclamation work for ORCUTT-SMAIL may involve the repair of an existing active chemical treatment system and access roads, scheduled oversite, monitoring chemicals and chemical addition rates, maintaining performance of the active treatment systems, water sampling, and other O&M functions as directed by the Knox District Mining Office.
