Western Area Power Administration (WAPA), a Power Marketing Agency, under Department of Energy, is conducting research to determine the market capabilities of potential contractors to perform the following: Remove 451 existing structures, conductor, and attachments. Total length is approximately 64 miles. Install approximately 400 HD steel monopole structures. Install two (2) circuits of 230-kV capable conductor and attachments. Installation of a 96-fiber path and attachments. Installation of OGW and attachments. Deconstruction of a lattice box structure located on the south end of the Nogales Substation. Grading of existing access roads as required for construction; construction of new access roads where new ROW is obtained. This a multi-year construction project; contractor will need to remove and replace at least 21 miles of transmission line within an outage window of 7.5 months while simultaneously coordinating with and obtaining permits from multiple landowners, railroads, state and federal agencies. Work is located between the Vail Substation located southeast of Tucson in Pima County and Tortolita Substation located north of Marana in Pinal County.
